Local Rules
Eighteen holes, eighteen games.
What it is
Mini golf built out of the rest of the catalogue. Every hole is another of these games with its rules still running: pins at the end of a bowling lane, curling ice that carries the ball, a boxing ring whose gloves jab on a timetable, pinball bumpers, a goalie shuffling post to post, lily pads on a lake, two columns of ants marching across a picnic blanket, and a card table where only a face-up pair lets the ball through.
Up to four players take turns on one screen. Play the front nine, the back nine, all eighteen, or a quick three; the scorecard keeps Out and In, and the full course is par 49.
How to play
- PuttPull back and let go
- HarderPull back further
- Put a name on itTap your seat
You can pull from anywhere on the screen, and a pull too short to count simply cancels. A ball that stops in the way of something moving is set down clear of it. Water costs a stroke and the ball goes back where it was played from, and no hole can cost more than six.
On a desktop, the mouse drags the same way. Or use the keyboard: left and right aim, with Shift for fine steps, up and down set the power, and Space or Enter putts. The aim starts pointed at the cup, and from the title screen any of those keys starts a game. M turns the sound on and off.
What isn't settled yet
The pars came from simulated rounds rather than played ones, so some of them may move once real scores come in.

Build 23
Local Rules arrived as eighteen holes of mini golf, each built from another game in the catalogue: pins on a bowling lane, curling ice, a boxing ring's jabbing gloves, a hockey goalie, marching ants, and face-up card pairs that pass the ball through. Up to four players shared one screen across four rounds — the front nine, the back nine, all eighteen, or three holes. A ball that stopped in the way of anything moving was set down clear of it.
