What it is

A word search in themes that run from Animals to Winter, with the words to find listed beside the grid. One is already ringed when a grid opens, so you can see what a find looks like.

There are three levels. Gentle runs words across and down, Standard adds diagonals, and Sharp runs them every way, even backwards. The grid grows with the screen, from nine letters across on a small phone to fifteen on a large display. Find the last word and every letter that isn't part of one falls away, leaving your words standing in their rings.

Every grid is checked before you see it

Each listed word appears in the grid exactly once, read in any of the eight directions. No line of letters, in any direction, spells anything from a list of English and French words a public screen should never show.

How to play

  • Find a wordDrag across it
  • OrTap its first letter, then its last
  • Theme, level, soundThe button above the grid

Either end of a word can come first. The finish shows your time, and the best time for that level and grid size, kept on your device.

On a desktop, the mouse works the same way: drag across a word, or click its first letter and then its last. There is no keyboard play.

What isn't settled yet

The word lists are English only, and nothing points you at a word you can't see: the one line of help goes after your first find. The themes come round again fairly soon, and whether Sharp, with words running backwards, is a fair step up from Standard is still an open question.

Build Log

  1. Build 1

Every grid was checked before it was shown: each listed word had to appear exactly once, read in any of eight directions, and no line of letters in any direction could spell anything from a list of English and French words a public screen should never show. For the player, a word that looked found was always the real one, and no grid spelled something it shouldn't.
