What it is

A layer of cake slides back and forth above the cake. Tap to drop it. Whatever hangs over the edge is cut off and tumbles away, and the next layer is exactly as wide as what you kept. The layer’s shadow on the cake below shows what you will keep before you tap.

Land within 45 thousandths of a second of exact and nothing is cut. From the fourth exact landing in a row, each one grows the cake back a little, never wider than it started. Miss the cake completely and the run is over. Your score is the number of layers.

There is a new cake every ten layers: chocolate, red velvet, lemon, strawberry, matcha, vanilla, blueberry and carrot. From the fifth cake on, each new one slides faster, up to a top speed it reaches on layer 131 and never passes. A tap counts at the moment you touched the screen, not when the picture next caught up. Your best is kept on this device and marked on the sky as a dashed line.

How to play

  • Start, and drop a layerTap anywhere
  • Sound on or offSpeaker button

After a run, a tap starts the next one. On the title and result screens, the speaker button in the top corner turns sound on or off; during a run the whole screen drops the layer.

On a desktop, click anywhere, or press any key (Space works), to start and to drop. M turns sound on or off at any time. Holding a key down drops once.

What isn’t settled yet

Whether the climb past the fortieth layer gets hard fast enough for the steadiest hands without getting away from everyone else.

Whether the lemon cake stands out clearly enough against the afternoon sky: it is the closest match to the sky of the eight.

Build Log

  1. Build 6

Clear Cut arrived. Layers of cake slide back and forth; a tap drops one, and only what hangs over the edge is cut off, so the next layer is exactly as wide as what was kept. Each tap was judged at the moment the screen was touched, not when the next frame drew it, so a drop landed where the layer was when the player tapped. From the fifth cake on, each new cake slid faster, up to a top speed that never rises further.
